Mixing paints should really work better

More painting that is difficult. This time I focused more on mixing paints and the effects that had on the colors. “It is pretty hard to mix the acrylic paints and the reason behind this phenomenon is that they usually get dried very quickly especially when compared to oil paints” (208 Montgomery). Challenge accepted Montgomery. I quickly learned that this very true and quite the issue. As well as the fact that certain different types of acrylic paints don't completely mix and will leave undertones of a certain color while the other color is still seen.

Though I also learned that if I used this technique correctly it would look pretty cool. One of the hints given by the book was also to mix early. Then just add a little water if the color gets to hard. "Think of the colors you want so when the paint dries it doesn't become streaky as your busy mixing your paints" (279 Montgomery). The colors I used did leave a undertone of the different colors but that was what I was hoping for.

Do you think this streaky undertone look could be a painting technique you would use or not?

Oh look a picture. Painting is hard

Painting with acrylic is hard. As I keep reading this book I continue to get ideas throw at me so todays project is working with a light source.  “When it comes to painting, then the light source plays a very important role on the final result. This is because the light source is responsible for making the colors distinctive and more vibrant” (287, Montgomery).  With this I decided to create a painting that had a natural light source.

"Using natural lighting is an easy start and creates a different picture when used correctly" (290, Montgomery). The lighting I was using in the idea of the painting was that there was a reflection in the water. Showing a bright day with a pretty sky, well I hope its pretty. I used the light source of the sun to create a reflection in the water as well. Everything else was really dark because shadows are a thing as well.

Do you actively think about where the light is coming from in your drawing/painting?

I made dots with paint :D

Since I'm not the best at painting normally I looked for a different way to go about this. After reading through my book I found this little bit. “Though stippling is a technique which is more used in drawing however very few people know that this technique can be effectively utilized in the case of painting as well” (Montgomery 325).  I hadn't though about stippling with paint before though I have tried the technique with markers, which is very repetitive. 

In case you weren't aware of what stippling is, "In this technique you can develop an accumulation of tiny dots" (Montgomery 343).  Though the dots I used were far from small, you would be surprised how difficult this was, It still shows the same idea. I also tried to use a difference in size between dots to show a sort of texture.

In this technique a lot of small efforts create a much larger picture. Do you think this shows more in art or in other activities?

Acrylic painting - Part1

HELLO EVERYONE,




So for my blog project I've decided to attempt to paint. See how I said attempt. My grandmother is really good at painting so I always try when I go to her house. Which doesn't go down too well, because I don't know what I'm doing. It's something I would like to get better at so my blog is going to be mostly going over the basics. So far the book has been more helpful with techniques but I haven't improved all that much. So without further ado, what I've learned on applying the paint.
