Crafted DIY: Decorative Gardening Pot

It seems a bit bizzare to bring up Mother's Day in the middle of January, but it's only because my Mother deserves the world (: Haven't you spent hours and hours in the past trying to find out what to get for your mom? Here's an idea!

That is, if your Mother is interested in gardening.



STEP 1: GATHER MATERIALS
You're probably thinking that my "Gather materials" step is a bit repetitive, but it is very important to have an idea of the materials you have and how you could improvise if you don't. Start off by getting, a paint brush of your choice, red and white paint, and a plate for starters.















STEP 2: MIX & PAINT
Start by mixing red and white together to achieve your desired color. Tip: make sure to make just a bit more than enough of that color. If you don't make enough you might end up with the wrong shade and it would be hard to achieve a replica of that color.









STEP 3: LAYERS

As said before you want to make enough paint for problems in the future. For example, having to layer on more colors so you don't see the color underneath the paint.



By the way, you do not have to paint the inside of the pot because it'll just be covered with soil.













STEP 4: DESIGN
In my opinion, the gardening pot will look better when it's customized and personal. It's "one of a kind" and it'll bring more character into this gift. I switched between paint brushes to achieve this look using white paint.

















STEP 5: FINALIZE DESIGNS & DRY
Continue to design your gardening pot around the whole circumference until you're satisfied. Let it sit out for 10-15 minutes for the paint to finish drying and it's ready to be used (:

Crafted DIY: Decorative Candle

While flipping through the pages of "Homemade Gifts With Love" by  Catherine Woram, I came across a decorative candle and thought it would be a masterpiece to add to a family dinner or get together. Truthfully, it's just another project to fit the aesthetics and an overall look of the house.



STEP 1: GATHER MATERIALS
To start off this project you'll need a bowl, brushes, a spoon, ribbon, tape, candle, sugar, and glue. Why are glue and sugar on the same DIY you ask? Read more to find out!!












STEP 2: TAPE & GLUE
After gathering the materials you want to put tape around the circumference of the candle (to your height of preference) and use the tape as a template. From there, you want to use the paint brush and spread the glue to the bottom half of the candle. This glue will be the sticking agent for the next step.














STEP 3: SPRINKLE

Once you've distributed the glue evenly, you want to place the candle inside the bow so that way it would be easier to clean up. You take a spoonful of sugar and dump it onto the glue so it would stick as for a design.



















STEP 4: DRY & TIE
When you're finished putting the sugar around the entire circumference, I would recommend letting the glue and sugar dry completely. After it has dried completely, you can take a pretty little ribbon and tie it into a bow. That is all, all done in 4 easy steps in less than 5 minutes. (:

AFTERMATH: The decorative candle looked beautiful as a result, but it did have its flaws. When doing this project I recommend that you use tiny crystal looking beads instead of sugar because you probably prefer not to use something edible. Make sure to also let the glue dry or it will peel off!

Crafted DIY: Decoupaged Frame

Christmas is right around the corner and we're running out of time and money to go get gifts from the great Black Friday sale. Do you need a few ideas for gifts; for your loved ones or for yourself in general? This is the blog for you!!

The first thing that caught my eye from 'Homemade Gifts With Love' by Catherine Woram was this beautiful and unique frame that I thought was quite pleasing. I wanted to recreate and try to attempt this DIY and see if I could do it for myself.



















STEP 1:


In my attempt for this project, I found this old frame well over 6 years and just isn't its best looking and I'll try to "revive" it. I started by detaching its pieces in preparation for the new makeover.







STEP 2:

After scavenging around the house, I finally found my map of Washington State that nobody cares to use. So why not use it for the aesthetics? I cut multiple specific selected sections on the map and continued on with my journey to success or a complete total fail.






STEP 3:

After you've gathered all materials such as map decoupage, frame, tape, and scissors.. It's now time for the "hard" part, depending on your frame. All you want to do next is wrap the tiny snippets of mapping paper around the frame and use tape to hold the paper in place from behind.






STEP 4:

For the result, this is my final product (:
To fit the idea of this project I used a photograph of my family and I in Hawaii (Cause the frame/border is a map, as a symbolic representation of travel)
I'd say this was a productive DIY and that it turned out better than I thought it would. I mean, there are a few parts where I could improve on.. But that's okay because I'M NOT PROFESSIONAL.. Yet.
