Soccer Tricks: The Leg Jam

Soccer Tricks: The Leg Jam

The trick "the leg jam" is easy to learn and catch onto after you are able to juggle the ball. This trick isn't going to be used in game, meaning it wont benefit how you will play on the field. But it is something fun to practice and isn't too complicated. Before you want to do the trick you should first practice the hold. World renowned soccer juggler Sean D'Arcy says "Use your hand to press the ball into the spot where the cheek of your bottom and your leg meet. Lift your heel up and press the ball into that spot"(84). Do this as many times as you need to where the point you feel comfortable the ball needs to be in order to trap it correctly. Now after you understand how to trap the ball, you can get started on doing the actual trick. Start juggling the ball normally and whenever you want, kick the ball up a little above your waistline.
While doing this kick the ball towards your body so you can adjust yourself to trap the ball with your dominant leg. Try and kick the ball to an area where it is easier for you to adjust your body and complete the leg jam. When first learning this Sean D'Arcy says a helpful tip would be to use an older ball because it will have more grip to it and to let some air out - but not too much, as the ball still has to be able to bounce back (85). When you master using your dominant leg you can practice with your opposite.

Is it realistic someone would use this trick in a game?
