Snail Drawing
For my fifth and final drawing that i'm learning from "How to Draw Cool Stuff" by Catherine V. Holmes, I will be drawing a snail or "A small gastropod mollusk animal that lives in a shell that it carries on its back, that moves very slowly, and can live in water or on land" (Holmes 55). Although a snail is not normally a very attractive animal, this drawing teaches me how to draw a cute little snail using simple techniques. To be able to draw this, I need to understand that "Simple shapes combined together can create more complex objects" (Holmes 55). This is a key thing to know because shapes can be added to construct a bigger picture.
Steps:
1. Start off with a basic circle.
2. Add a small crescent as shown. Draw a circle inside the previous one, it should be to the lower left.
3. Connect the smaller circle to the outer circle with curve. Erase part of the little circle as shown.
4. Continue drawing the curve around and around until it is about this small.
5. Next, erase a part at the bottom to show the opening. Then, add a rim to the front of the shell as shown
6. Add a body, head and and tail to it for the finished snail.
7. Add shading.
This is a very cute and simple drawing that anyone can do! I hope you guys try it. What is your favorite animal? Do you think you could draw it?

This is so cute! Guess who's going to be drawing snails all over her notebooks now (; My favorite animal is a Tasmanian devil. Totally weird, I know. I don't think I could draw one, though. Hair and fur are too hard to draw. That's why snails are perfect! They have a hard shell and smooth... skin? Anyways, how long did this take you to make? Would you ever think about drawing it again and adding a more realistic background just to make it look nice?
ReplyDeleteHi Ashlee, to answer your question, it didn't take me very long, only like 20 minutes. I would consider drawing it again just because it was so fun to draw!
DeleteI hate snails and I think you did a great job capturing snails as a drawing. My favorite animal is a Panda because they're from Asia and they don't really do anything. I don't think I could draw a panda very well with their fur, claws, teeth etc. One thing I was wondering was if you think that snails are generally cute in real life? Or did you only think the drawing is cute?
ReplyDeleteHey Quentin, I do not think that snails are cute in real life. I only like drawings of them. Less slime(:
DeleteThis is great! I like how it's a nice simple design, and nothing too difficult. My favorite animal is an elephant. I used to always try and draw them but they always came out a little disproportionate... I don't particularly like to draw because... well lets just say its not my strong suit.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a favorite famous artist? If so, why are they your favorite?
Hey Jo! I really like your detail and shading adding to the snail drawing. My favorite animal would definitely have to be a red panda because come on, they're cuteeeeeeeee. Do you know how to draw anymore animals?
