Well, it's exactly what it sounds like! It's an easy transportable object that is squishy. This object can be squished and condensed with the pressure of your hands to relieve stress, for fun, or when you're in class and can't seem to keep your hands still.
Catherine Woram came up with the idea of "lavender hearts" which is basically an enclosed fabric that was filled with dried lavender, I decided to take a twist with this idea and improvise by making it something fun and delicate, known as a squishy.
STEP 1: as always.. GATHER MATERIALS
Starting off this project you want to gather all materials required to complete this project. This is an easy cheap DIY that is a no brainer. You'll something that is in a powdered form (flour, baking soda, powdered sugar, etc.), a rubber band, a plastic bag, and a sharpie (optional).
STEP 2: PREPARATION
Not going to lie, this project is pretty messy, so the best thing to do is to prepare everything in advance and try to keep your area clean and make it less of a hassle for you in the future. For example, cut the plastic bag in half first. I prefer you use the blank side of the plastic bag for a blank canvas if you prefer to draw on it..
STEP 3: ADD POWDER
For the next part you pour the powder to the center of the plastic bag. You can eyeball this part and decide how much you want to add for the desired squishy, but I put about 1 cup of flour (rice) to the center of the plastic bag.
STEP 4: SEAL & CUT
After pouring the desired amount of powder to the plastic bag, you want to seal the squishy by gathering all the sides to form a dome that'll enclose the powder from escaping. Take a rubber band and tie it off, then you want to take a pair of scissors to cut off the excess plastic (optional) for a cleaner more attractive appeal.
STEP 5: COMPLETE, UNLESS..
From here, you can stop the process if you're in no mood to decorate or continue any further.. But I decided to continue the process and make this project a little more "special" by putting in some effort to make it personal and make it a craft.
..BTW, this symbol is not for anything in particular. I thought it'd look cool with the roman numerals which stands for Jan. 1, 2017.

Ta-da! This is the end result and now you know how to make a cheap, affordable squishy all within 5 minutes. Now you you can go along with your day with less stress, entertainment for toddlers, or if you fidget with your fingers a lot like me!
CAUTION: don't let your younger sister hammer the squishy because the squishy does not like it and will explode with anger releasing all its powder.

This is really cool! I could totally use one of these in my life, and now I know how to make one, and even customize it myself. Does the sharpie not come off with use of squishy?
ReplyDeleteOops, I meant to say, "use of the squishy"
DeleteThank you Ashlee! I totally agree with you that this is a life essential (: By the way, the sharpie does not come off the more you use the squishy. Let me know how your DIY turns out!!
