Bakin' Maple-Nut Bars

Ever since I could remember my auntie and I always experimented with different kinds of recipes to surprise our family with something new. When I saw this recipe in Cookies Cookies Cookies By: Shelli McConnell for Maple-Nut Bars I immediately knew I had to try it despite me not being a huge fan of maple.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purposed flour
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup margarine or butter
  • 2 eggs
  •  1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup maple-flavored syrup
  • 2 tablespoons margarine or butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Recipe:

Step 1: For crust, in a large mixing bowl stir together the flour and 2 tablespoons brown sugar. Using a pastry blender, put in butter till crumbly. Press mixture into the bottom of an ungreased baking. Bake in 350 degree oven for 15 minutes.

Step 2: Meanwhile, in another mixing bowl use a fork to beat eggs slightly. Stir in cup brown sugar, walnuts, maple-flavored syrup, 2 tablespoon margarine or butter and vanilla.

Step 3: Pour the nut mixture over the partially baked layer. Bake in 350 degree for 25 minutes or till set. Slightly cool in pan or a wire rack. Cut into bars. Store, covered the refrigerator.

Surprisingly, this this recipe turned out amazing! Shelli McConnell even thought up of a way to spice up the bars and make them a little more festive. "Here's some ways to vary the shape! For triangles, cut cookie bars into 2- 21/2 inch squares. Then diagonally cut each of the squares in half" (McConnell 21).

Do you like to try new things despite past events?
If so what was something you've tried?

  1. Great post Taylor! You should bring me one tomorrow haha. I don't like trying things if I had a bad experience with something similar in the past. One thing I was wondering was if you genuinely enjoyed baking and cooking, or if you only do it for a grade? Also, why did you try this recipe if you knew you didn't really like Maple?

    1. Thank you so much Quentin! I will try my best to bring you some tomorrow, haha. Personally, I always loved to cook and bake especially for my loved ones but, I will admit because of this blog I did do it more often then I am use to. I decided to do this recipe despite me not being a big fan of maple. Is because since I usually stay inside my comfort zone I wanted to expand and see how it goes. Thankfully it turned out amazing! Thanks you for reading my blog!

  2. Wowow these maple-nut bars sound delicious. You did a very nice job with this post. Whenever I try something and I fail at it, it depends on if I know i'm genuinely terrible at it or if I know that I can get better at it with practice when deciding if I should give it another shot. What kinds of new things have you tried?

    1. Thank you Julia! That's awesome that you usually give it another shot and put some thought into trying something again. I wish I put more thought into my decisions on trying things or to not. Something new I have tried recently would be sushi, and honestly, I wish I never tried it. I did not like any of the sushi that was being served to me sadly, haha.
