Just Give It a Shot

We all know that the zombie apocalypse is going to happen someday and you don't want to be that guy stuck with the baseball bat, trying to defend himself by whacking the living dead. No, you rather be the guy with the gun and has no problem defending himself from a long distance.

Shooting traces back all the way to ancient times when target times, such as spear throwing and archery in Europe and Asia. In the Middle Ages, became the most trending social sport which first appeared in the 1200s in Europe. In the 1500s these club matches became public celebrations and were often held on holidays. More often than not, the winner's prize would be gold. Through the years, as firearms improved, the matches became more formal. During the 1800s, thousands of spectatrors would come to watch and cash prizes up to $25,000 were awarded. Today, rifle, shotgun, and pistol matches continue to thrive in popularity and are events in the Olympic Games.

The gun used in the video is a full size 9 millimeter Beretta. Glasses and earplugs/earmuffs are required at the range for the shooters protection. As shown in the video, the shells come flying back and on multiple accounts it hit me. Though it doesn't hurt, it will hurt if it hits your eye so eye protection it greatly stressed.

It is required at the range for shooters to always wear proper safety gear, because many flying objects at the range are potential hazards such as the shells. Glasses can also improve performance by reducing glare. Earplugs/earmuffs protect a shooter's hearing from strong gun blasts.

The targets I used where Target Man and a gray scaled regular target. This being my first time ever handling and shooting a gun, I was pretty satisfied with the result of my current ability to shot a gun. I was surprised to find that the gun was quite heavy and the powerful kick of firing the gun. My goal though over the course of this project is to increase both my accuracy and precision. I would like to know, what was your first experience with a gun and did it have a positive or negative impact on you?

  1. My first experience shooting a gun was earlier this year. It was fun but the shell came back and went down my shirt and burned me. It had a positive impact on me because i got a chance to do what I've always wanted to do.

    1. Woah, I hope that doesn't happen to me...that's good though that even though you had a bad physical experience, it didn't deter you from enjoying the experience overall. :)

  3. I'm really interested in gun shooting! I've shot many types of guns, from different size handguns to rifles and shotguns. I have many experiences with guns and I will say that it made me nervous at first. There are many types of handguns that produce different amounts of recoil. Your 9mm definitely has some kick to it. But just wait, if you ever shoot a 12 gauge, it may leave some soreness in your shoulder! Great post, I'm interested to see what you have in store for next time!

    1. I was definitely a weird mix of excitement and nervousness before shooting. Although the 9mm was nice, I'm thinking of exploring other types of guns so I might go to you for some suggestions! The 12 gauge sounds a little scary, but I might give it a try. Thank you Lucas! (also nice profile pic)
