Developing Speed

                                                            Blog number 1

Two factors that determine running speed are stride and stride length. Stride cadence refers to the number of strides taken per second, and stride length refers to the distance traveled by each stride.(5, Jeffreys)

The running stance can be divided into an early stance, a midstance and a late stance. During the early stance your body absorbs the landing forces, which can vary from two and a half to five times the bodyweight. During the midstance. the athlete switches from absorbing force to shortening the muscles and generating maximum vertical force.  In the late stance, the body accelerates forward and the flight phase is the period between when you and the next foot contact and the athlete makes no contact with the ground.

What type of things do you think motivate people to cross the finish line when they feel like quitting?
